What’s In a Name?

My real name is John and this is my blog.

TheProgRocker is my online identity, used for forums, gaming, chat, etc. It’s a moniker derived from my love of Progressive Rock music. I decided to create this blog in order to capture my appreciation for music and technology. I currently reside in Buffalo, NY and I’m a PC technician at a local college. I’m primarily a guitarist and have been in a couple of bands over the years. Ever since I was old enough to bang on the keys of a computer I’ve been fascinated with technology. I am huge Android fan and become pretty fluent in the mobile operating system. I am not however a professional journalist, writer, or blogger…So bear with me.

WTF Is This Site About?

I started this site to basically post all my experiences with computer and to assist others. I figured if I could find a fix to something then why hide it? I also consider myself pretty well versed in music, so I wanted to post reviews of music I was listening to.

Music

I’ve been a self-proclaimed musician for a number of years now. I started playing guitar when I was about 12 and ever since I haven’t been able to stop. Since then I’ve been part of a few bands here and there, and still play guitar, bass and drums. My music library spans multiple genres, eras, and artists and is my primary influence when writing. You’ll find anything from Cannibal Corpse, to Frank Sinatra, to Led Zeppelin on my computer. I usually try and get to a few concerts a year varying in genres.

Computers

My roots with computers stem back to Windows 3.1 days. I really started getting involved with computers around junior high and sought to teach myself everything I could. I graduated college with an associates degree in Computer Networking Systems. I’m a self-taught web designer, graphic artist, and well…blogger. I am now hired at a local college as a PC Technician. I handle around 600 faculty and staff machines and about 3,000+ student machines. Most of what I do is client side support and on occasion I deal with server work. I enjoy helping others with the issues they may face, and documenting my work along the way. I also am a Droid enthusiast. I recently purchased an Android smartphone and love the OS.
